Country in Crisis, Restoration of Constitution and Strengthening of Democracy Top Priority: Mahmood Khan Achakzai

**Qila Abdullah:** Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has said that the country is facing a serious crisis and that the restoration of the Constitution and strengthening of democracy are the top priorities to save Pakistan.
Expressing his views during an informal interaction with senior journalists of Qila Abdullah Press Club in Islamabad, Achakzai said his struggle is aimed at the complete restoration and consolidation of democracy. He emphasized that the country is at a critical crossroads and that restoring the Constitution is the only way forward.
He urged all democratic forces to come out on February 8 for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that his continued detention sends a negative message to democratic forces. Achakzai warned that if democratic parties fail to resist such actions, it would not bode well for the future of democracy in the country.
The opposition leader said that wrong decisions have pushed the country into political and economic turmoil. He pointed out that the closure of the border with Afghanistan has severely affected business and industrial sectors, causing losses worth billions of rupees every month.
Achakzai stressed that Pakistan’s survival lies in the restoration of democracy and the Constitution. He said the only way to pull the country out of ongoing crises is for all institutions to function within their constitutional limits.
Earlier, journalists led by Hayatullah Shaheen, Mansoor Ahmed Achakzai, and Hassan Achakzai congratulated Mahmood Khan Achakzai on assuming the office of Opposition Leader. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the country’s political, economic, and regional situation.
