Punjab Police Attack on Mahmood Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas’ Convoy Sparks Strong Reaction from Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party

**Quetta, January 8, 2026** – The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) has strongly condemned an attack on a political convoy led by its chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai and senior vice president Raja Nasir Abbas. According to a press release issued by the party’s central secretariat, unknown elements, reportedly backed by the Punjab government, carried out the assault using unmarked vehicles, with the complicity of the Punjab Police.

The convoy, which was traveling towards Lahore, faced violent obstruction, including broken vehicle windows and roadblocks. Party officials described the incident as a blatant display of “non-political, anti-democratic, and unjustifiable” aggression.

The statement emphasized that party workers, including elected representatives (MPs and provincial legislators), had gathered at various locations to welcome the convoy. Despite this, uniformed and plainclothes police reportedly subjected the convoy to “inhuman and unethical violence,” which the party said revealed the “hollowness” of state institutions.

The PMAP criticized the federal and Punjab governments for violating the country’s constitution and undermining parliamentary sovereignty. The statement called for continued efforts to restore democratic governance, protect the rights of all citizens, and demand the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The party warned that attempts to suppress peaceful democratic political movements would fail and called on the public to support nationwide protests, including the “wheel-jam and shutter-down strike” scheduled for February 8, 2026.
