Protests Spread to 250 Locations Across Iran, 35 Killed, Over 1,200 Arrested

Iran: Protests triggered by rising inflation have spread to more than 250 locations across 27 of Iran’s 31 provinces, further intensifying the overall situation in the country. Reports have also emerged of clashes between protesters and security forces in several cities.
According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 35 people have been killed in violence linked to the ongoing demonstrations. Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported late Monday that around 250 police personnel and 45 members of the volunteer Basij force were injured during the protests.
The report said that more than 1,200 people have been arrested so far during the demonstrations, which have been continuing for over a week. HRANA added that a large number of university students are actively participating in the protests, with separate student-led demonstrations reported in various cities.
The protests are primarily driven by soaring inflation and worsening economic conditions, which have significantly affected the daily lives of ordinary citizens. Protesters say sharp increases in the prices of basic commodities have made it difficult to make ends meet and are demanding immediate government action.
In response to growing public pressure, the Iranian government has announced a financial relief package. Under the plan, citizens will receive a monthly allowance of seven dollars for the next four months to help mitigate the impact of inflation. Officials said the measure is intended as immediate relief, while other steps to address economic challenges are also under consideration.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also commented on the situation, stating that the legitimate demands of protesters should be acknowledged. He said public hardships cannot be ignored, while also vowing to thwart any alleged conspiracies by foreign agents. According to him, the government aims to address public grievances while simultaneously ensuring law and order.
As the death toll continues to rise, the possibility of US involvement has also come under discussion. US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Friday that if Tehran “violently kills peaceful protesters,” the United States would come to their assistance.
