Former Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik Eyes Return to Selected International Leagues

Islamabad: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has expressed his desire to continue playing in selected international leagues despite having retired from international cricket. He also indicated that he is not interested in moving into coaching at this stage, focusing instead on playing opportunities and television commentary.

Malik is currently part of the commentary panel for the ILT T20 League in the United Arab Emirates, where he has been working alongside cricket legends Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and other internationally renowned players for over a month. He described the experience as highly positive and educational, offering him a new perspective on the game.

Speaking informally, Malik said, “I will soon be 45 years old, but I still feel fit, which is why I want to play in selected international leagues.” He added, “Commentary has been a new and enjoyable experience, allowing me to view cricket from a different angle.”

Commenting on the ILT T20 League, Malik stated that while he has played in many leagues worldwide, the standard, management, and environment of the ILT T20 League make it unique, and he praised both the organizers and fellow participants for their professionalism.

Malik’s son, Azhaan Mirza Malik, has also been seen showing interest on the field with a small bat, though Shoaib noted that Azhaan is more inclined toward football than cricket.

Cricket analysts say that Shoaib Malik’s experience and fitness still make him a valuable prospect for limited-overs leagues, while his presence on the commentary panel adds both insight and entertainment for viewers.
