OGDC Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery in Kohat

Kohat: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery in the Nashpa Block located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to an OGDC spokesperson, successful production from the Bragzai X-1 well has been achieved, yielding 4,100 barrels of oil per day along with 10.5 million cubic feet of gas per day. The Bragzai X-1 well was drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters.

The spokesperson said that a hydrocarbon-rich zone of 187 meters was successfully identified in the Datta Formation. In the Nashpa Block, OGDCL holds a 65 percent working interest as the operator, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) holds 30 percent and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds 5 percent.

OGDC stated that the new discovery will further enhance the country’s and the company’s energy reserves. The development of local resources is expected to improve the balance between energy supply and demand in Pakistan and strengthen energy security.
