Wheat Crisis Deepens in Balochistan as 20kg Flour Bag Price Surpasses Rs 2,500

**Quetta:** The wheat shortage in Balochistan has intensified, with the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour crossing Rs 2,500, raising serious concerns among consumers and traders alike. Over the past ten days, flour prices in Quetta have increased by Rs 20 per kilogram, pushing the price of a 20kg bag from Rs 2,130 to as high as Rs 2,530.
Shopkeepers say they are receiving flour from flour mills at higher rates, leaving them with no option but to pass on the increased cost to consumers. The sharp rise has further burdened households already struggling with inflation.
Flour mill owners have warned that the situation could worsen if restrictions on wheat transportation from Punjab and Sindh are not lifted. According to mill owners, the Balochistan Food Department currently has no wheat stocks available, while local farmers have also raised wheat prices.
They cautioned that continued suspension of wheat supplies from Punjab and Sindh could lead to a more severe flour shortage across the province, further driving up prices and deepening the food crisis.
