Enemies Using Proxies to Exploit Internal Weaknesses, Says Field Marshal Asim Munir

**Islamabad:** Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has stressed the need for comprehensive preparedness and effective coordination among all elements of national power, warning that hostile forces are increasingly resorting to indirect and ambiguous tactics, including the use of proxies to exploit internal vulnerabilities.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Field Marshal visited the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, where he was briefed by panels of civil and military participants of the National Security and War Course on academic assessments of national security challenges and the requirements to address them.
Highlighting the evolving global, regional, and domestic security environment, Field Marshal Asim Munir said Pakistan is facing diverse and persistent challenges spanning conventional and non-conventional domains, including intelligence, cyber, information, military, economic, and other sectors.
He emphasized that countering these challenges requires an all-encompassing approach and close synergy among all components of national power. He noted that adversaries are avoiding direct confrontation and instead employing indirect and hybrid methods, particularly by using proxies to exploit internal weaknesses.
The Field Marshal underlined the importance of grooming future leaders capable of timely identification, anticipation, and effective mitigation of multidimensional threats. He said clarity in decision-making, intellectual strength, and mental resilience under uncertainty are essential qualities for effective leadership in today’s contested security environment.
Commending NDU’s role in developing strategic thinkers, he said the institution possesses strong capacity to translate rigorous professional education and academic insight into effective policymaking and practical outcomes. He added that professional military education plays a central role in strengthening institutional capacity, promoting indigenous capabilities, and ensuring long-term national stability.
Appreciating the depth of analysis presented by the panels, Field Marshal Asim Munir urged participants to remain vigilant and steadfast while upholding the values of integrity, discipline, and selfless service.
Earlier, upon his arrival at NDU, the Chief of Defence Forces was warmly received by the President of the National Defence University.
