Balochistan CM Sarfaraz Bugti Demands Social Media Regulation, Warns Against Defaming Politicians

*Quetta (Daily Qudrat):* Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has expressed strong concern over rampant misinformation and character assassination on social media, calling for urgent legislative action to regulate the digital space in the province.
Speaking in the Balochistan Assembly, CM Bugti condemned the circulation of baseless propaganda and fake news, including so-called “Balochistan Leaks,” which he said tarnish the reputations of law-abiding citizens and elected representatives. “Social media has gone out of control, and this defamation is intolerable,” he remarked.
He emphasized that politicians are accountable to the public every five years and are not afraid of scrutiny. “But there is a difference between accountability and character assassination. Those spreading lies and fake news to attack reputations cannot be given free rein,” he added.
CM Bugti proposed the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to curb cybercrimes and urged strict legal action against offenders through relevant authorities, including the FIA. He stressed that exemplary measures must be taken against a few individuals to set a precedent and halt this growing trend. The provincial government will fully support any decisions taken by the Assembly in this regard.
