Online Shopping Declines in Pakistan as Majority Still Prefer Traditional Markets: Gallup Survey

Islamabad: Online shopping trends in Pakistan are declining, according to a recent Gallup & Gilani Pakistan survey that highlights significant insights into consumer behavior. The survey reveals that a large portion of the population has not made **any online purchases in the last six months**, choosing instead to shop through traditional markets.

Despite global growth in e-commerce, many Pakistanis still consider in-person shopping more reliable. A major reason behind this preference is the **lack of trust in online payment systems**. Numerous respondents expressed concerns about **bank account misuse** and the risk of **online fraud**, which keeps them away from digital shopping platforms.

Even among those who do shop online, **cash on delivery (COD)** remains the most preferred payment method, as consumers believe it is safer and offers greater peace of mind.

The survey also sheds light on popular online products. **Clothing remains the top category**, with nearly one in three online shoppers purchasing apparel in recent months. Watches and fashion accessories are also gaining popularity, driven partly by social media trends.

Beyond shopping habits, the survey explored social attitudes. When asked which famous personality they would choose to live like, **nearly half of the respondents chose religious leaders or scholars**, citing their positive influence on society and exemplary lives.

On relationship values, a majority agreed that **trust is the most essential element** in maintaining strong relationships. Love, patience and sacrifice were also mentioned, but trust was overwhelmingly identified as the foundation.

Overall, the survey offers a clear reflection of the Pakistani population’s mindset, preferences and societal values in an increasingly digital world.
