Punjab IG Slams Transporters’ Strike, Calls Unlicensed Driving a “License to Kill

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar has strongly criticized transporters’ strike call, saying driving without a license is equivalent to “inviting death and accidents.”

In a statement, the IG said that in civilized nations people support implementation of the law rather than resorting to strikes. He added that unlicensed driving is a **“license to kill”**, something that is unacceptable anywhere in the world.

Dr. Usman Anwar warned transporters that authorities are already giving them time to comply, but if they keep their vehicles off the roads in protest, police will ensure those vehicles do not come back on the roads and will confiscate them if necessary.

He said that going on strike effectively means allowing school vans to keep overturning and children to keep dying. “We will not come under pressure or blackmail when it comes to the safety of schoolchildren,” he said.

The IG emphasized that protecting the lives and property of the public is the police’s top priority and that this duty will continue without any compromise. He made it clear that traffic violations will continue to face **zero tolerance**.

Meanwhile, transporters across Punjab have announced a province-wide strike against heavy fines. Leaders of the Pakistan Transport United Action Committee, in a press conference in Lahore, demanded the immediate withdrawal of the **Traffic Ordinance 2025**, calling it unjust and a burden on transporters.
