Lahore: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi Holds Talks with JI Deputy Amir Liaqat Baloch Regarding Protest Demands
Lahore:According to the spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Islami, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi contacted JI Deputy Amir Liaqat Baloch via telephone to discuss demands related to the ongoing protest.
The JI spokesperson stated that Liaqat Baloch informed the Interior Minister that consumers using up to 500 units of electricity should be given a 50% discount on bills, and slab rates in electricity bills should be abolished.
Liaqat Baloch emphasized the termination of capacity payments and dollar payments in IPPs, the repeal of unjust taxes on the poor class, the rollback of recent increases in petroleum product prices, and the end of the Petroleum Development Levy.
It should be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami has set up a protest camp in Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi, where a stage has been set up for party leaders’ speeches, and arrangements for food and beverages for protesters have also been made.
Yesterday, JI Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman addressed protesters, stating, “We are fighting the battle of 25 crore people of Pakistan. The salaried class has been ruined, the poor were already destroyed, now even capitalists are forced to close their mills. The people are distressed, but the rulers are not listening.”
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman further said, “Electricity and gas are free for one class now. Now every child understands what IPPs are. 80% of the companies in IPPs are owned by the people of Pakistan. Companies of people included in the government are also in IPPs. There is also a company whose unit costs Rs 750. Why should we pay this money? Now we will not pay this money. Now we will have to rein in these IPPs, we will have to talk again.”
