Interim Bail Granted to Fort Abbas Residents “Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif” in $37,000 Cryptocurrency Fraud Case

Islamabad: A local court in the federal capital has granted interim bail to two residents of Fort Abbas, Bahawalnagar, named Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in a case involving an alleged $37,000 cryptocurrency fraud.
According to details, the case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following a complaint filed in 2024. The complainant, Islamabad resident Hassan Mohsin, alleged that the accused defrauded him under the guise of cryptocurrency trading.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that during investigation, it was found that the WhatsApp numbers provided by the complainant were linked to the accused, and their bank accounts were also reportedly associated with the transactions.
The complainant further alleged that the accused used foreign WhatsApp numbers and posed as online crypto traders, convincing him to invest $37,000 in cryptocurrency. The amount was transferred to Binance accounts operated by the suspects, but neither profit nor the original investment was returned.
Investigators claimed that the inquiry substantiated the allegations and confirmed financial transactions through bank records. The case was registered under the PECA Act and other criminal provisions.
The accused, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, through their counsel, approached the court seeking pre-arrest bail, arguing that the case was false and that they had no connection with the WhatsApp numbers mentioned in the FIR.
After hearing arguments, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka granted interim bail till May 5 and directed both accused to submit surety bonds of Rs. 20,000 each.
