Opposition Marches from Parliament to Supreme Court Against 27th Constitutional Amendment; Achakzai Announces National Conference and Black Day

ISLAMABAD: Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman and head of the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP), Mahmood Khan Achakzai, led the opposition’s protest march from Parliament House to the Supreme Court on Tuesday, announcing a **national conference** against the 27th Constitutional Amendment and declaring **Friday as a Black Day** across the country.
Addressing the participants of the march—which included MWMP chief and TTAP Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser—Achakzai said the amendment was “against the Constitution, against Islam, and against the nation’s faith.”
### **National Conference to Oppose Amendment**
Achakzai said that after consultations with intellectuals, legal experts, journalists, and political leaders, a national conference would be convened. The event would include judges, scholars, journalists, and representatives of various schools of thought to collectively oppose the amendment.
He stated that the controversial proceedings held in Parliament three days earlier violated both Islamic principles and constitutional norms. “Our Constitution clearly states that no law can be enacted against Islam. Even the Holy Quran affirms that every person, except Allah, is accountable,” he said.
### **Criticism of Government and Amendment**
Achakzai strongly criticized the government, claiming that attempts were being made to grant absolute immunity to the Army Chief and the President. “Even prophets were not exempt from accountability, yet immunity is being extended here in violation of constitutional fundamentals,” he remarked.
He accused the government of coming to power through intimidation and “stealing the mandate of Imran Khan’s party,” adding that parliamentary seats were “distributed like charity,” weakening constitutional foundations.
“No institution has the authority to alter the basic structure of the Constitution,” he warned.
### **Call for Nationwide Black Day**
Achakzai announced that **Friday will be observed nationwide as Black Day**, with black flags displayed across the country and peaceful protests held after Friday prayers. He urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to officially support the observance.
He appealed to religious scholars to use their Friday sermons to declare the amendment “un-Islamic, undemocratic, and unconstitutional,” and to mobilize people for the Black Day.
### **Commitment to Peaceful Constitutional Struggle**
Achakzai said the TTAP believes in a peaceful struggle without abusive rhetoric or confrontation. “We will send this government home through people’s power and lay the foundation of a new democratic Pakistan,” he vowed.
He added that opposing immunity for “thieves, criminals, and murderers” was a moral and religious obligation:
“This struggle is not for any party or individual, but for protecting the Constitution of Pakistan, the sanctity of faith, and the teachings of the Holy Quran.”
The protest march concluded peacefully outside the Supreme Court as opposition leaders reiterated their resolve to continue their movement across the country.
