PM Shehbaz Sharif and US President Trump Likely to Hold One-on-One Meeting in Washington

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet US President Donald Trump today in Washington for a one-on-one discussion focusing on global and regional issues. Field Marshal Asim Munir is also likely to attend the meeting.

The upcoming Washington meeting follows interactions between the two leaders during a session with leaders of Islamic countries in New York. At that occasion, PM Shehbaz and President Trump engaged in a prolonged handshake and informal conversation. President Trump also greeted Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The discussion concluded with President Trump giving a thumbs-up sign.

During the Islamic countries’ leaders’ meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif also held talks with the Emir of Qatar, King of Jordan, and President of Indonesia, discussing matters including a ceasefire in Gaza.

* He met Kuwait’s Crown Prince, emphasizing mutual commitment to advancing bilateral relations.
* Talks with Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa focused on defense cooperation and strengthening ties in multiple sectors.

These engagements underscore Pakistan’s active diplomatic outreach as PM Shehbaz Sharif seeks to strengthen bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
