Pakistan-Saudi Defense Pact Triggers Regional Ripples, India Expresses Concern

NEW DELHI: India has reacted to the strategic mutual defense agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, expressing unease over its potential regional and global implications.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a statement on social media platform X, said the Indian government was already aware of the development and is closely monitoring reports of the agreement. He added that India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national security and interests while analyzing the possible impact of the pact on regional and global stability.

The agreement, signed in Riyadh by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stipulates that any external armed attack on one country will be considered an attack on both.

The Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA) underscores the deepening security and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, marking a significant shift in regional defense alignments.
