Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Vows to Expose Opponents, Says ‘I Will No Longer Stay Silent’

Karachi: Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab has declared that he will no longer remain silent against his political opponents, vowing to expose them and use strong words where necessary.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Wahab said the current struggle was not just for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) but for the entire city and province. He recalled that when party members complained about lack of resources, he directed that Rs 27 billion be provided, after which it was admitted in a press conference that all funds were consumed by salaries.
The mayor pointed out that those who once claimed resources were unavailable suddenly began development work, linking it to the completion of gas projects. He questioned how much money had been spent on road-cutting works.
Responding to allegations by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had commercialized public parks, Wahab said it was in fact JI that had commercialized city roads in the past, creating today’s sewage issues. He added that under JI, parks had become hubs for drug addicts and immoral activities.
Wahab stressed that his administration had revived recreational activities in parks, including Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, to restore them for public use. He criticized political opponents for filing cases against KMC in court despite its efforts to improve the city.
He also addressed claims by PTI’s Haleem Adil Sheikh about damage to the Hub Canal, clarifying that only a 20-meter section was affected due to water pressure but was repaired within 48 hours, with water supply restored the previous day.
“Political differences should not be based on falsehoods that damage the city’s image,” Wahab said, adding that his team had resolved to not only work but also ensure visible results for the people of Karachi.
