After Devastation in Punjab, Floodwaters Enter Sindh — Evacuations Underway in Riverine Areas

ISLAMABAD / SINDH:Following widespread destruction in Punjab, **floodwaters have now entered Sindh**, prompting authorities to evacuate residents from vulnerable **riverine (katcha)** areas to safer locations.

In **Kashmore**, people are being shifted using boats to avoid the rising water levels. However, in **Dadu**, residents of low-lying riverine regions have reportedly **refused to evacuate**, raising concerns for their safety as water levels continue to rise.

According to **Irrigation Department data**, a **moderate flood** is currently underway at both the **Guddu** and **Sukkur barrages**:

* **Guddu Barrage**: Inflow recorded at **505,000 cusecs**
* **Sukkur Barrage**: Inflow recorded at **440,000 cusecs**

### 🛑 **Flood Alert and Government Response**

At a **briefing held at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)**, **Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik** confirmed that the **second wave of flooding has reached Panjnad**, and that preparations are fully in place to handle the situation.

He also noted that the **monsoon season is expected to end within the next few days**, offering some relief on the horizon.

**NDMA Chairman**, during the joint briefing, stated that:

* **Damage assessments (both human and financial)** are currently underway.
* **All relevant institutions in Sindh** are operating under the guidance of NDMA to mitigate further damage and respond effectively.

### ⚠️ **Key Concerns:**

* Reluctance of residents in some areas (like Dadu) to evacuate despite the risk.
* The potential for further displacement if inflows continue to rise at key barrages.
* Infrastructure strain in flood-prone areas with limited access and resources.

Authorities continue to urge residents in high-risk zones to **cooperate with rescue teams** and **prioritize safety** over property.
