Flood Emergency Persists as India Releases Water into Sutlej; Thousands of Acres Submerged in Punjab

Lahore:A **high-level flood** continues to devastate areas around **Ganda Singh Wala in Kasur** after India released excess water into the **River Sutlej**, submerging vast low-lying regions and destroying thousands of acres of standing crops.

According to local reports, floodwaters have inundated multiple settlements, while emergency relief operations are underway. Affected residents and their livestock have been moved to safer locations by rescue teams.

In **Burewala**, the **Sahoka** region and nearby communities are submerged, leaving locals stranded. Thousands of acres of crops — including cotton and rice — have been lost. A breach in the **Sahoka-Chishtian road** has disrupted land connectivity for **hundreds of villages**, further complicating rescue efforts.

In **Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar**, evacuations are ongoing from flood-hit zones. The **moderate-level flooding** in Sutlej has submerged **cotton, sesame, and paddy fields**, displacing communities and causing extensive agricultural damage.

Meanwhile, **moderate flooding** is also being reported at **Guddu and Sukkur Barrages** in **Sindh**, with floodwaters affecting surrounding areas. Locals have begun migrating with their cattle to avoid the rising waters.

Authorities across Punjab and Sindh remain on high alert, and rescue operations are in full swing. However, the scale of agricultural loss and displacement is significant, and officials warn that the situation may worsen if further water is released upstream.
