No Chance of PTI Government’s Return in KP After Today’s Briefing, Says Senior Journalist Amir Ilyas Rana

LAHORE: Senior journalist Amir Ilyas Rana has claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces an uncertain political future following a recent briefing, adding that the party’s political difficulties are likely to increase in the coming days.
Speaking on HUM News, Rana said that, in his assessment of the briefing, there was no possibility of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa returning to its previous position.
Referring to political discussions involving Afghanistan and the Taliban, he said politicians who wished to engage in such discussions should focus on Pakistan’s domestic politics if they intended to pursue politics within the country.
Rana also recalled a message suggesting that those wishing to leave should go to Iran, drawing a parallel with his remarks about politicians who frequently discuss Afghanistan and the Taliban.
He said the implications of the briefing would become clearer in the coming days.
KP’s Law and Order Situation to Be Addressed Within Six to Eight Months
Discussing the decisions taken at the Apex Committee meeting, Rana said the authorities had set a target of improving the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within six to eight months.

He added that the existing governance system in the province would also have to be improved.
According to Rana, the chief secretary briefed participants on federal and provincial departments and proposed development projects.
He described the briefing as routine but suggested that administrative changes within the bureaucracy would also be necessary in view of the province’s deteriorating situation.
Rana clarified that the security challenges were not confined to the 12 districts identified in connection with terrorism, arguing that wider governance problems had affected the province.
Security Operations and Governance Reforms Expected
The journalist said intelligence-based operations and targeted actions would form part of the response to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He criticised what he described as an excessive focus on political narratives at the expense of governance and practical measures.
Rana also questioned what position political leaders, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, would take on the evolving situation.
Commenting on Achakzai, Rana said he had heard similar speeches from him since 1992, particularly regarding Pashtunistan and Afghanistan.
Concluding his remarks, Rana predicted that PTI would face mounting political challenges in the days ahead.
