Karachi’s Busy Jahangir Road Turns to Ruins After Rainfall, Causing Severe Traffic Jams

Karachi: Jahangir Road — one of Karachi’s busiest and most vital thoroughfares — has deteriorated significantly following recent rainfall, now resembling a state of disrepair with large potholes and broken pavement across both tracks. This has led to frequent and prolonged traffic jams, becoming a daily struggle for commuters.

Stretching from **Guru Mandir to Teen Hatti Bridge**, this major road connects **District East with District Central** and is surrounded by federal government housing colonies. Hundreds of vehicles — including public transport and private cars — use this route round the clock, earning it the title of a “lifeline” of the city by locals.

According to residents, the recent rains have caused **extensive damage**, forming potholes and breaking up the road surface, rendering recent repair efforts useless. Despite being repaired just months ago, the road could not withstand the impact of the monsoon rains.

The **poor condition of the road** is damaging vehicle engines and parts, forcing drivers to spend repeatedly on repairs and maintenance. During evening rush hours, it now takes **10 to 15 minutes just to cross the affected stretch**, causing both financial and time-related strain for citizens.

Frustrated locals sarcastically commented that if the authorities lack the resources, they’re even **willing to collect donations** for repairs. They stressed that they don’t demand grand facilities — just **basic infrastructure improvements**.

Citizens have urged the government to immediately initiate **drainage, cleanup, and road restoration** work on Jahangir Road to alleviate the ongoing hardships and restore normal traffic flow.
