Another Incident of Blind Trust in Google Maps Leads to Car Falling Into Drain in Mumbai

Mumbai:In a troubling incident in Mumbai, a car following the route suggested by Google Maps ended up falling into a drain. The female driver, who had relied solely on the app’s navigation, was rescued after the car plunged into a drain near the Belapur area.
According to reports, Google Maps directed the driver to take the path underneath the bridge, whereas the actual route was above the bridge. This misdirection led to the vehicle falling into the drain. Fortunately, onlookers and rescue personnel were able to safely extract the woman from the car. A crane was later used to pull the vehicle out of the drain.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred due to blind reliance on Google Maps. Several similar cases have been reported previously, where drivers have been led down unsafe or incorrect paths. One such tragic incident occurred in November last year, when a vehicle following Google Maps fell from an under-construction bridge in India, killing three people.
The recurring incidents have raised concerns about the accuracy of navigation apps, with experts urging users to exercise caution and verify routes, particularly in areas with ongoing construction or uncertain paths.
