Trump Administration Sues NYC Mayor Eric Adams Over Alleged Protection of Violent Criminals

Washington, D.C:The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other officials, accusing them of enabling violent crime through local policies that allegedly shield dangerous offenders.
According to reports, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the city’s leadership has released thousands of criminals, effectively allowing them to commit violent acts against law-abiding citizens. “New York’s policies are putting innocent lives at risk,” Bondi said. “If the city won’t stand up to protect its people, the federal government will.”
The lawsuit criticizes specific local laws that, according to the Trump administration, obstruct federal immigration enforcement and provide sanctuary to individuals with serious criminal backgrounds.
Deputy Attorney General also weighed in, saying, “For too long, New York City has blocked the enforcement of federal immigration laws. That era is over. The federal government will no longer allow cities to defy lawful efforts to protect the nation.”
This legal move signals a renewed clash between local sanctuary policies and federal immigration enforcement—a conflict that was central to Donald Trump’s previous presidential term and appears to be resurfacing amid the ongoing 2024 election cycle.
No immediate response has been issued by Mayor Eric Adams or New York City officials.
