Actress Humaira Asghar Ali’s Mysterious Death Sparks Legal Battle in Karachi Court

The mysterious death of 42-year-old actress Humaira Asghar Ali has become a subject of intense scrutiny, with the case now reaching the district court in Karachi. A local resident, Shahzeb Sohail, has filed a petition in the court, claiming that her death was not natural but rather a murder, and has requested the authorities to register a case.

Humaira’s body was discovered in a highly decomposed state on July 8, 2024, in an apartment located in Phase 6 of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi. The discovery was made after a landlord, under court orders, initiated eviction proceedings due to unpaid rent. The police noted that the body was in such an advanced state of decay that they estimate the actress may have passed away at least six months ago, around October 2023.

The case took a dramatic turn when Shahzeb Sohail approached the session judge of South Karachi’s court, arguing that Humaira’s death could not have been natural. He pointed to evidence, including videos and other clues, suggesting foul play. The actor’s disconnection from her family and the family’s apparent indifference to her death raised suspicions. Sohail has requested that the family be included in the investigation to help uncover the truth.

The petition names the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South and the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Gizri police station as respondents. It urges the court to order a thorough investigation and instruct the police to register a murder case.

In the initial investigation, the police had dismissed the possibility of murder, as the apartment appeared to be locked from the inside and there were no signs of forced entry. However, forensic evidence has raised questions. Items in the apartment, such as food that expired in September 2024, power outages, and the actress’s mobile phone inactivity, all point to the fact that her death occurred several months ago. Police are now examining her phone records and other digital evidence to gather more insights.

Humaira Asghar was not only a renowned actress known for her roles in *Tamasha Ghar* and *Film Jalebi*, but she was also a skilled artist, excelling in painting and sculpture. She had over 715,000 followers on Instagram, with her last post dated September 30, 2024.
