Punjab Govt Renames Jinnah Institute of Cardiology After CM Maryam Nawaz

Lahore: The Punjab government has officially renamed the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, dedicating it to the current Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The medical facility will now be known as the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.
According to media reports, the facility is an upgraded version of the Jinnah Trauma Centre project, which was initially launched four years ago during the tenure of former Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. Located in front of Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital, the project was later restructured by the caretaker government into a state-of-the-art cardiac treatment center and renamed the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology.
Now, under the current provincial administration, the institute has been renamed in honor of Maryam Nawaz, reportedly as a tribute to her contributions in the healthcare sector.
While government officials have defended the decision as a recognition of Maryam Nawaz’s services, critics have raised concerns over replacing the name of a historical national figure, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, with that of a contemporary political leader.
