Sindh Government to Purchase Machinery for Vehicle Fitness Inspections: Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Provincial Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has announced that the provincial government has decided to purchase machinery to inspect vehicle fitness across the province. Addressing the Sindh Assembly, he highlighted that previously only two inspectors were responsible for checking vehicle fitness in the entire province.
Memon stated that vehicle fitness certification is now mandatory, and the Transport Department is actively working to digitize the process. “Earlier, fitness certificates were issued manually, often without actual inspection. Now, certificates are issued with a QR code for verification,” he added.
He further revealed that the Information Department has launched a job placement app, where over 100,000 users have registered. Both public and private sector jobs are posted on the platform, ranging from plumbing to engineering roles. The app, named “I Work for Sindh”, has received over 7.2 million visits. It offers features like smart job alerts and CV builders.
The senior minister also said that grants amounting to Rs297 million are being provided to various associations, press clubs, and media organizations.
Touching upon the film industry, Memon emphasized the role of cinema in promoting national narratives. “India promotes its narrative through films. Sindh government has now decided to use the film industry to represent Pakistan’s perspective globally,” he said.
Regarding electric transport, Memon clarified that Sindh, not Punjab, introduced the first electric vehicle (EV) bus in Pakistan. He also claimed that the Pink Bus Service launched by Sindh is the first such service in Asia, not just in Pakistan.
On women’s mobility, he said that the government plans to distribute 1,000 pink motorbikes to women. So far, 8,000 applications have been received, but only 145 applicants currently hold valid driving licenses. The traffic police have now received 8,000 additional license applications from women. He added that the government also plans to introduce a Pink Taxi service for women.
Speaking about the Red Line BRT project, he said that the contractor has already received Rs1 billion. He noted delays due to business owners demanding alternate routes, but emphasized that such requests could not be accommodated everywhere in the city.
Memon also commented on national politics, saying, “There has been a lot of politics around canals in the country. But the ‘Pakistan Khappay’ slogan has stood firm against every conspiracy.”
He praised the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and said their legacy remains unmatched. Highlighting international diplomacy, he said, “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has represented Pakistan’s case globally. Despite threats, including a bounty by India, he visited the country.”
He also credited President Asif Ali Zardari for granting provincial autonomy and the NFC Award.
Concluding his remarks, Sharjeel Memon said, “I usually ignore MQM’s statements. There’s no need to engage them. Everyone has to present their performance to the public. Rahman Dakait was killed during PPP’s gover
