President Approves Appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Forces

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) – President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has approved the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). This follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval and submission of the summary recommending Field Marshal Munir as both Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and CDF.
According to the official statement, the President has approved a five-year tenure for Field Marshal Munir as Chief of Defence Forces while he continues to serve as Chief of Army Staff. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir thus becomes Pakistan’s first-ever Chief of Defence Forces.
Additionally, the President approved a two-year extension for Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Sadhu, with the extended tenure commencing on March 19, 2026. The President expressed best wishes for the successful tenure of both the Chief of Defence Forces and the Air Chief.
This historic appointment marks the establishment of the new CDF position in Pakistan, consolidating leadership of the country’s armed forces under Field Marshal Asim Munir for the next five years.
