Pakistan Government Aims for 6% Growth by 2029: Federal Minister Ahsen Iqbal

Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsen Iqbal**, announced that the government has set an ambitious target to **increase Pakistan’s growth rate to 6% by 2029** under the **5-year development plan**. Speaking alongside **Chief Economist Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed** during a press conference at the **13th Five-Year Plan** and **Monthly Development Update** event, Iqbal outlined the government’s economic vision for the next few years.
According to Iqbal, the government plans to **expand the national economy** to **\$600 billion** within the next five years. The **federal development budget** is projected to rise to **1700 billion PKR**, while the **provincial development budgets** will increase to **2338 billion PKR** by 2029.
In a significant revelation, Iqbal shared that the government plans to build a **”Danesh University”** in **Islamabad**, funded by the **£190 million** recovered by the **National Crime Agency of the UK** during the tenure of former Prime Minister **Imran Khan**.
He emphasized that this initiative, backed by the **UK’s National Crime Agency**, would be a key educational project in Pakistan’s capital, contributing to national development. Iqbal also mentioned that the approval for the university’s establishment had been granted under the leadership of **Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif**’s government.
This bold development plan reflects the current government’s focus on economic growth, education, and the recovery of ill-gotten funds for national development.
