Wildfire in Balochistan’s Torghar Forests Rages into Third Day, Over 500 Acres Affected

Shirani: A massive wildfire that broke out on May 31 in the dense forests of Torghar, located in Balochistan’s Shirani district, continues to burn for the third consecutive day, with authorities struggling to gain full control. The fire has so far engulfed more than 500 acres of forest land, posing a serious threat to the region’s delicate ecosystem and wildlife.
According to district officials, the fire initially started in the lower forest areas but rapidly spread uphill due to strong winds and mountainous terrain, making firefighting efforts more complex.
Deputy Commissioner Behram Saleem informed the media that assistance was immediately requested from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). In response, PDMA dispatched two specialized teams comprising 11 rescue personnel, 2 ambulances, and 100 fireballs, who are now working alongside local volunteers, Levies forces, and forest department staff to contain the blaze.
The DC stated that the fire has been largely controlled in the lower regions, but flames continue to burn in higher altitudes, where firefighting crews are building natural firebreaks to limit the spread.
He also confirmed a noticeable reduction in smoke levels, and that Levies personnel are maintaining constant surveillance to ensure any resurgence is tackled swiftly. An additional team was deployed Monday morning to reassess the area and reinforce preventive measures.
Experts warn that forest fires not only damage local flora and fauna but also threaten biodiversity, air quality, and nearby communities. Officials caution that it may take more time to fully extinguish the fire, emphasizing that round-the-clock monitoring and coordinated efforts remain essential to tackling this environmental emergency.
