BJP’s Muslim Leader Sparks Controversy with Claims Linking Islam to Hinduism to Please Modi

In a controversial move seemingly aimed at appeasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, **Jamal Siddiqui**, the **National President of BJP’s Minority Morcha**, has stirred outrage with his remarks equating elements of **Islam with Hindu beliefs**.

In an interview with *India Today*, Siddiqui claimed that **Sanatan Dharma predates Islam** and serves as the **foundation of civilization**. Going further, he asserted that **“all Muslims are descendants of Lord Ram,”** a statement that has been widely criticized for historical inaccuracy and religious insensitivity.

In an apparent effort to align Muslim identity more closely with Hinduism, he stated:

> *“Those Muslims who do not believe in Ram and Krishna cannot be called true Muslims.”*

Siddiqui even suggested that **Ram and Krishna could be part of the Islamic spiritual lineage**, referencing the Islamic belief that **124,000 prophets were sent to various nations**, even though only **25 are mentioned in the Quran**.

> *“How can we say Ram and Krishna were not among them?”* he questioned.

He also claimed that the **Muslim community in India is rooted in ancient Hindu traditions**, a statement that many see as an attempt to **blur religious lines** in favor of the BJP’s **Hindutva narrative**.

Siddiqui’s comments have **sparked backlash from religious scholars, opposition parties, and members of the Muslim community**, who view this as a **politically motivated distortion of religious history** aimed at **undermining Muslim identity** in India.

Critics argue that such statements are part of a broader strategy by the **BJP to assimilate minority voices into its majoritarian ideology**, using token figures like Siddiqui to **legitimize controversial narratives**. The remarks have reignited debates about the **treatment of minorities under the Modi government** and the **increasing politicization of religious identity** in India.
