PM Shehbaz Sharif Heads to Iran for Key Talks on Bilateral Ties and Regional Security

Islamabad/Tehran, May 26, 2025** – Prime Minister of Pakistan **Shehbaz Sharif** is set to arrive in **Tehran today** as part of his **four-nation diplomatic tour** aimed at boosting regional cooperation and promoting peace. After concluding his visit to **Türkiye**, the Prime Minister will travel to **Iran this afternoon**, where he is expected to receive a **warm official welcome**.

According to diplomatic sources, Prime Minister Sharif will hold **high-level talks with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi**, focusing on **bilateral relations, economic collaboration, and regional security dynamics**.

### **Briefing on Indo-Pak Tensions and Regional Stability**

Officials confirm that PM Sharif will **brief the Iranian leadership** on the **recent Pakistan-India tensions**, as well as the overall **strategic landscape of South Asia**, as part of ongoing efforts to build trust and align regional policies among neighboring countries.

The Pakistani delegation will **stay overnight in Tehran**, engaging in several important meetings with **senior Iranian officials and policymakers** before proceeding to the next leg of the tour.

### **Purpose of the Four-Nation Tour**

As per government sources, the tour — covering **Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan from May 25 to 30** — aims to:

* Strengthen **economic partnerships**
* Reinforce **regional peace and stability**
* Expand **Pakistan’s diplomatic footprint**

The Prime Minister’s visit is seen as part of a broader strategy to **forge strategic ties** and reposition Pakistan as a proactive regional player amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

### **Earlier Visit to Türkiye**

On May 25, PM Sharif held a **comprehensive meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan** in Ankara. The leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to **deepening strategic cooperation**.

President Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s **principled support on the Kashmir issue**, while PM Sharif expressed **gratitude for the backing** shown by friendly nations during Pakistan’s recent confrontation with India.

### **Upcoming Participation in International Glacier Conference**

PM Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to attend the **International Conference on Glaciers** in **Dushanbe, Tajikistan**, on **May 29–30**, where he will address climate-related challenges facing the region.
