Good News for Electricity Consumers: Likely Reduction in Monthly and Quarterly Adjustments

Islamabad: Electricity consumers may receive good news soon, with expectations of further reductions in electricity prices under monthly and quarterly adjustments. According to reports, the cost of electricity is likely to decrease by 3 paisas per unit under the monthly adjustment for March. Additionally, the quarterly adjustment is expected to result in a reduction of over 1 rupee per unit. This adjustment could provide a total relief of around 51.49 billion rupees.
The application for the third-quarter adjustment for the financial year 2024-25 has been submitted, which includes a request for a reduction of 47.12 billion rupees in capacity charges. Nepra (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) is set to hear the request regarding the quarterly adjustment and the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) tomorrow.
According to the application, a total of 8.409 billion units of electricity were generated in March, with the cost of electricity production being 9.22 rupees per unit. The reference cost of electricity for March was 9.25 rupees per unit.
This adjustment could bring significant relief to consumers and help lower their electricity bills in the near future.
