Sindh Government to Regulate Prices of Branded Products in Karachi Supermarkets

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to fix the prices of branded products sold at supermarkets and superstores in Karachi as part of efforts to curb inflation and ensure affordability for consumers.
According to Express News, the government will also collect data related to production costs and profit margins of branded items. A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Zahid Hussain Sher, Director General of the Bureau of Supply and Prices, attended by senior officials and representatives of major supermarket chains in Karachi.
During the meeting, DG Zahid Hussain Sher emphasized the importance of consumer rights and the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act. He instructed all commercial entities to register and renew their warehouse records with the Bureau of Supply.
He stated that the government has been authorized to control prices of essential goods, prevent hoarding, and curb profiteering, especially for locally manufactured and branded items in Karachi.
The DG further announced that prices for all branded goods will be officially set starting next month. Prior to this, comprehensive data on production costs and profit margins will be collected to ensure a fair pricing system.
This initiative aims to make branded essentials more accessible to the people of Karachi while addressing rising inflation, he added.
