Gas Prices Likely to Rise: SNGPL and SSGC Submit Petitions to OGRA for Tariff Hike

Islamabad: In another blow to inflation-weary citizens, Pakistan’s major gas companies have submitted petitions to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking a significant increase in gas tariffs to meet their financial requirements for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has requested OGRA to approve the recovery of Rs 700.97 billion in financial needs, proposing an average gas price of Rs 2,485.72 per MMBTU. The company has also submitted a separate request to recover a shortfall of Rs 207.43 billion. Public hearings on SNGPL’s request are scheduled for April 18 in Lahore and April 28 in Peshawar.
Similarly, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has filed a petition for the recovery of Rs 883.54 billion, proposing an average gas price of Rs 4,137.49 per MMBTU. SSGC is also seeking the recovery of a Rs 44.33 billion shortfall. Hearings on this application will be held on April 21 in Karachi and April 23 in Quetta.
The proposed tariff hike comes amid soaring inflation, raising serious concerns for already burdened households and industries.
