Islamabad High Court Issues Notices on Delay in Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Members

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has issued pre-admission notices to the federal government, the Prime Minister, through the Principal Secretary, and the President through the Secretary, in response to a petition filed by the opposition leaders of the National Assembly and Senate regarding the delay in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commission members.
The petition was heard by Justice Muhammad Azam Khan in the Islamabad High Court. The petitioners, Opposition Leaders in the National Assembly and Senate, Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, challenged the delay in the appointments.
The court also issued pre-admission notices to the Chief Election Commissioner and the members of the Election Commission. The hearing was based on a petition filed by PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz, who raised concerns over the delay in the appointments.
While issuing the pre-admission notices, the court postponed the hearing of the case until April 29.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission members are continuing their work even after the expiration of their term. The court inquired whether the process for their reappointment has begun.
The petitioner’s lawyer responded that the process has not yet started, and a parliamentary committee needs to be formed for the appointments.
