Sunil Gavaskar Recalls Memorable Meeting with Imran Khan: A Story of India’s Defeat in Cricket

A video clip of former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is going viral on social media, in which he reminisces about a meeting with former Prime Minister and founder of PTI, Imran Khan. Gavaskar shared an interesting story from their conversation, where Khan had expressed his desire to defeat India in a cricket match.

According to Gavaskar, the meeting took place in London, where Imran Khan had revealed that he was retiring from international cricket after the England tour. When Khan mentioned his retirement plans, Gavaskar asked why he would retire, to which Imran Khan responded, “Next year, Pakistan is coming to India, and I need to defeat this Indian team, including you.”

Gavaskar said he told Khan that Pakistan would not come to India to play cricket, to which Imran Khan replied that the ICC was about to make an announcement. Gavaskar recalled that he had told Khan, “If the ICC announces that Pakistan is coming to India, I won’t retire.” True to Imran Khan’s prediction, the ICC did announce that Pakistan would indeed play cricket in India, and Gavaskar did not retire as a result.

As the story goes, the India-Pakistan series took place, and Pakistan won the five-match Test series 1-0. Not only that, but Pakistan also won the subsequent six-match One Day International (ODI) series 5-1, marking Pakistan’s first-ever victory against India in their own country. Imran Khan’s claim proved to be true, making this story a memorable chapter in cricket history.
