BNP Strongly Condemns Ban on Political Activities in Educational Institutions

Quetta:The central executive committee member and district president of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), Ghulam Nabi Mari, along with the district information secretary Nasim Javed Hazara, have strongly condemned the decision of the Balochistan government’s Home Department to impose a ban on political activities and student organizations in educational institutions. In their statement, they termed the move as unconstitutional and unacceptable.

The BNP leaders argued that this action by the provincial government is a direct violation of the Constitution of Pakistan, which guarantees the freedom of speech, the right to form associations, and the establishment of political parties from Article 8 to 28. They stated that the Home Department has no authority to issue orders that are against the Constitution, emphasizing that the Supreme Court has already opposed such bans on student organizations in the past.

The BNP members further emphasized that this unconstitutional decision is harmful to the future of national politics, as the youth, including students, will eventually play key roles in political institutions and various sectors of society. They pointed out that educational institutions, colleges, and universities serve as essential training grounds for young people, and imposing a ban on student organizations is akin to undermining the future of the youth.

They also criticized the government’s anti-democratic approach, stating that such severe restrictions on political activities in Balochistan were not even seen during military regimes. According to them, the region is already grappling with issues of injustice, unemployment, and oppression, and instead of addressing these problems, the government is stifling political engagement by imposing such bans, jeopardizing the future of Balochistan.

The BNP leaders have called for the immediate reversal of this unconstitutional ban on student political activities. They warned that if the government fails to lift the ban, the party will strongly oppose the decision and continue to raise its voice in support of students’ rights and democracy. They further affirmed that BNP has always fought for the rights of the people, particularly students, and will continue to do so.
