Nawaz Sharif Resumes Political Activities and Outreach Following a Long Hiatus
Islamabad:It has been nearly a year and a half since former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif returned to the country. Following his return, Nawaz Sharif took an active role in party affairs, conducting interviews with election candidates before distributing party tickets and holding rallies in various parts of the country.
Ahead of the general elections on February 8, he had meetings with senior party leaders, although some were reportedly sidelined. In a recent interview with *V News*, senior PML-N leader and former federal minister Khurram Dastgir revealed that since Nawaz Sharif’s return, he has not had a personal meeting with him. Dastgir mentioned that despite his attempts to meet, Nawaz Sharif did not respond to his requests. Additionally, some other party leaders have occasionally expressed off-the-record frustrations over not being given one-on-one time with Nawaz Sharif.
However, following Dastgir’s interview, Nawaz Sharif eventually met with him a few days ago to discuss the political situation. Following this meeting, Nawaz Sharif also began holding political discussions with other PML-N leaders. Sources suggest that after meeting with Khurram Dastgir, Nawaz Sharif also met with Khawaja Saad Rafique, another senior leader of the party. Both Dastgir and Rafique were defeated in their respective constituencies during the February 8 elections.
Sources further revealed that Nawaz Sharif is working on re-establishing his communication with party workers and leaders. Just as he used to maintain contact with party workers and leaders through phone calls, he is now resuming that practice. A list is reportedly being prepared to facilitate weekly phone calls and meetings with political workers and leaders.
As part of his renewed public engagement, Nawaz Sharif has been visiting the homes of party workers and leaders to offer condolences. He is also set to restart his public outreach campaign, targeting districts where the PML-N faced losses in the February 8 elections. He plans to visit these districts, meet with party officials and workers, and outline his future political strategy.
