Sher Shah was reportedly present at the court for the hearing of his brother, Shah Rees Khan, when he was later apprehended from his residence. According to his lawyer, Rana Muddassir Advocate, Sher Shah had accompanied his brother to court and was detained after returning home.
Police claim that evidence has emerged linking Sher Shah to the May 9 incidents, and legal proceedings will follow accordingly.
Earlier, Shah Rees Khan was arrested on Thursday by Punjab police in connection with the May 9 violence, particularly the Jinnah House attack case. He was presented before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Friday.
The ATC, presided over by Judge Manzar Ali Gul, granted an eight-day physical remand of Shah Rees Khan. The investigating officer told the court that Shah Rees had been named in the case since September 23, 2023, based on supplementary statements. The police requested a 30-day remand for further interrogation.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram, representing Shah Rees Khan, argued that he had never previously been treated as an accused and that this was a politically motivated action aimed at harassment. He also questioned why it took 27 months to arrest Shah Rees if he had been named earlier, suggesting the arrest was in response to recent bail approvals for Imran Khan.
Aliya Khan had previously alleged that her son Shah Rees was abducted from their home by four armed men in civilian clothes who entered through the kitchen. She said her son was on the upper floor with his wife and father when he was taken, and the armed men also harassed domestic staff.
This development follows the Supreme Court’s decision just a day earlier to grant bail to Imran Khan in eight separate cases.
Authorities have reiterated that individuals involved in anti-state activities will not be given leniency and that the law applies equally to all.
