Four New Polio Cases Reported in Pakistan, Total Reaches 63 in 2024
Islamabad: Four new cases of polio have been reported in Pakistan, bringing the total number of cases to 63 for the year 2024. The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the new cases of Wild Polio Virus Type 1 (WPV1) in the regions of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Jacobabad, and Sukkur.
According to health officials, the new cases include the ninth case in Dera Ismail Khan, the third in both Tank and Jacobabad, and the first case this year in Sukkur. With these new cases, the distribution of the 63 total polio cases across the country is as follows: 26 cases from Balochistan, 18 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 from Sindh, one from Punjab, and one from Islamabad.
Polio continues to be a significant public health challenge in Pakistan, and efforts to combat the disease are ongoing through vaccination campaigns and other preventive measures.
