Skin Allergy Outbreak Affects 350 Inmates at Quetta District Jail
Quetta: Around 350 inmates at the District Jail Quetta have been affected by a skin allergy, which has rapidly spread across the facility. The condition has reached epidemic proportions in the last six months. Despite repeated requests from the jail authorities to the Health Department, no action has been taken to address the situation.
According to sources, the jail administration has sent over a dozen letters to the District Health Officer (DHO) and the Health Department, but no medications or doctors have been provided to treat the affected prisoners. This negligence has resulted in the condition worsening, with more inmates being affected as the disease continues to spread.
The situation is causing severe distress among the prisoners, with concerns that the outbreak could further escalate. In light of this, the provincial government, including Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sardar Fateh Muhammad Baloch and Health Minister Bakht Mohammad Kakr, has been urged to take immediate action to provide medical assistance to the affected inmates.
The District Jail Quetta currently houses approximately 1,400 prisoners. The lack of proper healthcare facilities has become a critical issue, and authorities have been called upon to address this urgent public health concern on humanitarian grounds.
