Imran Khan’s Lawyer Unaware of Judicial Commission Case on Election Rigging

Islamabad:In a surprising turn of events, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Hamid Khan, appeared unaware of the case regarding the formation of a judicial commission to investigate alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections. The case was being heard by a 7-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Ameenuddin Khan.

According to Express News, when the case was called for hearing, Hamid Khan was already absent from the courtroom. Upon this, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked, “Call Mr. Hamid Khan. His case has been called for hearing.”

In response, Hamid Khan, who had apparently been unaware of the scheduling, explained, “I believe this case is scheduled for hearing on December 12,” to which Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel replied, “Your advocate-on-record has already been notified. Please stay in contact with them.”

During the proceedings, the court staff showed Hamid Khan the cause list, confirming that the case was fixed for today. Hamid Khan then requested that the hearing be postponed until after the winter break. The court accepted his request and adjourned the case until after the winter holidays.

In another development, the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench dismissed three petitions related to election rigging due to non-prosecution. The petitioners—Qayoom Khan, Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi, and Mian Shabbir—failed to appear in court during the hearing. These petitioners had filed requests regarding alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections.

**Shir Afzal Marwat’s Petition Postponed**

The bench also postponed the hearing of a petition filed by Shir Afzal Marwat, seeking the formation of a judicial commission to investigate election rigging. Marwat’s lawyer informed the court that there were objections from the Registrar’s office regarding their petition, but the reasons for these objections had not been disclosed. The court stated that the objections would be addressed, and if resolved, the case would proceed to merit-based arguments.

Justice remarked that a similar petition was also filed by the founder of PTI, Imran Khan. The bench adjourned the case until after the winter break.

It is noteworthy that Shir Afzal Marwat had also filed a petition seeking the formation of a judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging in the general elections.
