Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing on Contempt of Court Petition Against PTI Founder
Islamabad:The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench heard the government’s contempt of court petition against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, regarding his actions during the May 25 long march.
Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan asked the Additional Attorney General if the government intended to seriously pursue the case. The Additional Attorney General confirmed that the government was committed to following up on the petition, explaining that Imran Khan had violated a court order during the long march. The Attorney General further stated that if the court decided to issue a notice, Khan may be required to appear before the court, and appropriate instructions would be sought.
Justice Jamal Mandokhel responded, emphasizing that contempt issues are between the court and the accused, and advised the government to avoid becoming too emotional, assuring them that the court would guide the process.
Salman Akram Raja, representing PTI, argued that the court’s verbal order had not reached Imran Khan due to the suspension of mobile services, which had disrupted communication with his legal team. Justice Musarrat Hilali then inquired if Imran Khan had received the notice, to which Salman Akram Raja clarified that the response was submitted only after the notice was officially received.
After hearing the arguments, the constitutional bench adjourned the case indefinitely, leaving the matter unresolved for now.
