PTI Leaders Clash Over Casualty Figures During Protest Incident
Rawalpindi: A heated disagreement erupted between PTI Chairman Barrister Goher and Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, over the number of fatalities during the recent protests. The dispute occurred during a court session at Adiala Jail, where Barrister Goher, Barrister Salman Akram Raja, and Aleema Khan were present.
The disagreement centered around the number of people who died during the protests at D-Chowk. Aleema Khan questioned why Barrister Goher reported only 12 fatalities, to which Goher firmly maintained that he could only confirm the death of 12 individuals, based on available and verified information. He explained that without proper verification, it would be irresponsible to suggest a higher death toll.
Aleema Khan then raised concerns about the large number of missing persons, asking Barrister Goher if he was aware of the scale of the disappearances. In response, Goher assured that the PTI had set up teams to look into the matter. Barrister Salman Akram Raja supported Goher, stating that the party was gathering all the necessary details and would not let the matter rest.
Goher expressed regret over the unverified reports of hundreds of deaths being circulated, emphasizing that without confirmed evidence, he could not make such claims. He reiterated, “I only have evidence of 12 deaths. How could I say that hundreds have died?”
In a tense exchange, Aleema Khan asked Goher if he had personally visited the families of any of the deceased or injured. Goher responded by mentioning Salman Akram Raja, who had visited the family of a party worker who had fallen from a container during the protest.
Finally, Barrister Salman Akram Raja urged Aleema Khan to refrain from labeling those appearing in court as “missing,” stressing that the party was doing everything possible to resolve the issue and seek justice for the affected families.
