PM Shehbaz Sharif Slams PTI’s Violent Protest in Islamabad, Warns Against Further Destabilization

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its violent protest in Islamabad, claiming that a group from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) created havoc in the city in a way that is “beyond words.” He accused PTI of planning and orchestrating such protests to cause destruction, resulting in significant damage to the country’s economy.
Speaking at a high-level meeting on public order, PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that the protesters, who came from KP, caused massive destruction, including violent attacks that led to the martyrdom of law enforcement personnel. He emphasized that the protests severely affected Pakistan’s economy, causing a loss of Rs. 190 billion daily.
“The scene created by this group cannot be described in words,” said the Prime Minister, adding that such acts of aggression had been repeated multiple times over the past nine months. He recalled how similar protests in 2014 disrupted major events, including the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was delayed due to the unrest. “Such hostility towards Pakistan is unprecedented,” he remarked.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also pointed out that PTI’s actions had negatively impacted foreign relations, citing protests during high-level visits by Chinese and Saudi officials. He blamed PTI for fueling a disruptive agenda aimed at destabilizing the country, calling the party’s activities a form of “sabotage” that puts Pakistan at risk.
He further highlighted that the protests had also marred international diplomacy, referencing the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during which protests were visible in the capital. He also mentioned that the country’s national defense institutions, including the army, had made significant efforts to maintain stability despite these disruptions.
Calling PTI a “fitna” (disorder) rather than a political party, PM Shehbaz Sharif urged for strong legal action against those responsible for the violence. “We must act decisively to protect the country from further destruction,” he asserted. He concluded by emphasizing the need to stand united against these forces and work towards building a better future for Pakistan.
