Quetta Doctors Continue Strike for Third Day Over Healthcare Demands
Quetta:The symbolic strike by doctors in the outpatient departments (OPDs) of government hospitals in Quetta, called by the Grand Health Alliance (GHA), has entered its third consecutive day. The strike, which takes place from 8 AM to 11 AM, has been affecting the daily operations of hospitals and causing significant hardship for patients seeking medical attention.
According to the Grand Health Alliance, the strike will continue until their demands are met. The GHA has warned that if their grievances are not addressed, they will escalate their protest by implementing a complete boycott of the OPDs starting from December 2, 2024.
The key demands of the GHA include the reversal of the decision to run hospitals under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which they argue would compromise the quality of healthcare services for the public. Additionally, they are calling for the appointment of Health Committees’ heads from within the health department, rather than relying on district authorities. The GHA is also pushing for permanent hiring in the health department instead of contract-based positions, which they believe would ensure better job security for healthcare workers and improve service delivery.
The ongoing strike has left many patients struggling to access medical care, with numerous appointments and treatments being delayed. Patients and their families have expressed frustration over the situation, urging both the government and healthcare workers to find a resolution quickly.
The Grand Health Alliance’s protest reflects broader concerns within the medical community over issues such as job security, healthcare management, and the privatization of public health services. The government’s response to the strike and whether it will address the demands of healthcare workers will be crucial in determining the future of medical services in the province.
