Smuggling of Harmful Betel Nut via Edible Oil Tanker Foiled in Karachi

Islamabad:Pakistan Customs successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle harmful betel nut to Karachi under the guise of an edible oil tanker, as part of its ongoing anti-smuggling campaign.
Acting on a tip-off, customs officials intercepted a tanker (registration number K2025) at the Mochko checkpoint. Upon inspection, hidden compartments within the tanker were discovered containing 245 bags of smuggled betel nut, weighing approximately 2.5 tons.
According to Customs spokesperson Irfan Ali, the seized consignment was being transported from Balochistan and has an estimated market value of Rs. 2 million. The edible oil tanker used for smuggling was also confiscated.
The total value of the seized betel nut and the tanker is estimated at Rs. 12 million. Authorities have launched further investigations into the smuggling network involved.
