LAHORE: Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police have arrested two individuals posing as police officers for their alleged involvement in an online honey-trapping and extortion scheme targeting a citizen.

According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the suspects lured the victim through an online application and called him to a meeting. Posing as police officers, they forced him into a car and fraudulently transferred more than Rs31,000 from him.

The victim contacted Police Emergency Helpline 15 after being allegedly abducted and forced to transfer money.

The spokesperson said the suspects also arranged for the victim’s brother to send money through an Easypaisa account. After obtaining the money, they abandoned the victim on Multan Road.

With the assistance of Safe City surveillance cameras and facial recognition technology, police traced and arrested the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Huzaifa Abdullah and Hassan, while their third accomplice, Ahmed, remains at large. Police have also recovered the Toyota Corolla allegedly used in the crime.

Raids are underway to arrest the absconding suspect. A case has been registered against the accused at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said strict action would be taken against individuals impersonating police officers to rob citizens.
