Supreme Court Grants Bail to Stepmother Accused of Killing 4-Year-Old

Islamabad: The Supreme Court has approved bail for a stepmother accused of murdering her 4-year-old stepson.
A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Jamal Mandokhail, heard the case. According to the complainant’s lawyer, the accused is the second wife of the complainant. He stated that he left the child safely at home, but upon returning from school, he found the child’s body. The complainant alleged that the stepmother fed the child a poisonous substance during a domestic dispute, resulting in his death by strangulation.
The defense lawyer argued that there is no witness or evidence against the accused. He added that the woman gave birth to a child while in jail and claimed the deceased child was already suffering from asthma.
Justice Musarrat Hilali noted that the medical report indicates the death was unnatural. Justice Malik Shahzad questioned how it could be proven that the mother caused the death, noting that half of such cases are mishandled by complainants and police.
The case had been registered at Nankana Sahib police station before being taken up by the Supreme Court bench.
