Imran Khan’s Sister Noreen Niazi’s Health Deteriorates in Jail, Shifted to Punjab Institute of Cardiology

ISLAMABAD (Daily Qudrat): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressing deep concern over reports that PTI chief Imran Khan’s sister, 70-year-old Noreen Niazi, fell ill during detention and was shifted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, has appealed for prayers for her early recovery.
In a statement issued on X by PTI’s central media department, it was said that according to received reports, Noreen Niazi was shifted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology after her health deteriorated in jail; however, the extremely regrettable and worrying thing is that no member of her family was informed about her transfer to the hospital.
If these reports are correct, this course of action is completely contrary to the requirements of human compassion, transparency and the basic rights of persons in custody.
PTI said that the alleged illegal detention of 70-year-old Noreen Niazi, the risks to her health and her transfer to hospital without taking the family into confidence are extremely serious matters, on which the Punjab government and relevant authorities should immediately provide an explanation.
The statement said that Noreen Niazi should be provided the best medical facilities under the supervision of a cardiologist, all necessary diagnostic tests and treatment should be ensured without delay, and authentic information regarding her health should be immediately shared with her family.
The family should also be allowed to meet her and inquire after her well-being.
PTI made clear that there is no room for endangering the health, life and basic rights of any citizen, especially elderly women, on the basis of political differences and retaliatory actions. It is the state’s responsibility to protect the life and health of persons in custody, not to keep their families in the dark, anxiety and mental torment.
The statement further said that PTI has serious reservations over the treatment meted out to Imran Khan’s sister and other innocent detained women. The honour and sanctity of women, human dignity and constitutional rights must be ensured in all circumstances. Making political affiliation a crime and detaining women for political pressure is unacceptable in any civilised and democratic society.
PTI demands that the Punjab government and relevant authorities immediately provide the family with complete details regarding Noreen Niazi’s current medical condition, diagnosis and treatment, ensure her proper medical care, allow the family to meet her, and immediately end the unnecessary detention of her and other innocent women, including her alleged illegal detention, and release them.
The statement said that the government and relevant authorities should remember that no compromise can be made on human life, health and basic constitutional rights. Putting an elderly woman’s health at stake in political conflict and depriving her family of basic information is an extremely inhumane attitude.
PTI also appealed to the people, workers and all countrymen to offer special prayers for Noreen Niazi’s early and complete recovery.
