QUETTA (Daily Qudrat): A closed-door regional conference of the Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) Quetta district’s Hazargangi Mianz Ghundai was held under the chairmanship of the party’s provincial president, Nasrullah Khan Zirey. The conference was attended by the party’s central secretary Allah Noor Khan Chairman, provincial first secretary Faqir Khushhal Kasi, provincial deputy secretaries Zinda Muhammad Sangar, Abdul Razzaq Barich, Ali Muhammad Tareen, Syed Akbar Kakar and Rahmatullah Sabir, district assistant secretaries Aminullah Kakar, Akbar Kalewal, Muhammad Rasool Tareen and other party leaders.

The conference began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, the honour of which was earned by Hafiz Salam Barich. Regional Secretary Obaidullah Barich presented a report comprising the organisational and political performance of the past three years, which, after detailed review by the hundreds of delegates participating in the conference, was approved. Subsequently, the new executive committee was elected.

As a result of the elections, Haji Obaidullah Khan Barich was elected regional secretary, Manzoor Ahmed Taran senior assistant secretary, while Ajab Khan Barich, Malik Alam Gul Nakhil, Shamsuddin Khan, Arbab Imran Kasi, Hidayatullah, Alauddin Kakar, Haji Zahoor Ahmed, Juma Khan Wafa and Allah Dad Khan were elected as assistants. The newly elected office-bearers were administered the oath by the party’s provincial first secretary, Faqir Khushhal Kasi.

Addressing the open session of the conference, the party’s provincial president Nasrullah Khan Zirey, central secretary Allah Noor Khan Chairman, and provincial deputy secretaries Ali Muhammad Tareen and Syed Akbar Kakar extended heartfelt congratulations to the former executive and committee members of Hazargangi Mianz Ghundai on holding a successful conference, and congratulated the newly elected executive on assuming new responsibilities, expressing good wishes for them.

The speakers said that Hazargangi Mianz Ghundai is an important commercial centre of the Pashtun people and the province, where the truck stand, bus stand, vegetable market, fruit market and other business centres are a source of livelihood for thousands of people. But unfortunately, the traders and business community of this important commercial centre are facing severe difficulties. Due to instability on the highways, the movement of goods trucks, trailers and bowsers has been badly affected, due to which difficulties are being faced in delivering fruits, vegetables and other commercial goods to markets on time and transferring them from there to other cities of the country.

They said that incidents of robbery, theft and snatching are occurring on a daily basis in Hazargangi, locks of warehouses are being broken, and the property of citizens and traders is not safe. The regrettable thing is that despite the arrest of those involved in crimes, they are released again. The ineffective performance of the police has further increased the sense of insecurity and anxiety among the people. It is the responsibility of the government and relevant institutions to ensure the protection of the lives and property of traders, labourers and citizens and to take effective action against criminal elements.

The speakers said that the people of Hazargangi Mianz Ghundai and its surrounding areas — Kali Nakhilabad, Kali Barichabad, Barich Town, Kasiabad, Raisani Kali, Zehri Town, Kakar Town, Akhtarabad and other settlements — are deprived of a basic facility like gas. Electricity load-shedding has reached up to eighteen hours a day, while there is a severe shortage of clean drinking water. Unemployment, inflation and the non-availability of basic facilities have made people’s lives miserable. Due to economic decline and despair, people are suffering from severe anxiety, which is a moment for reflection for the rulers and relevant institutions.

They said that keeping the Pashtun people deprived of stability, economic deprivation, unemployment and basic facilities is unacceptable under any circumstances. The concerns of land-grabbing and occupation of mineral resources behind the situation of instability and insecurity in the area cannot be ignored. There is concern among the people that through an environment of instability and fear, a path is being paved to displace the local population from their areas and occupy their resources. It is the responsibility of the relevant authorities to take serious notice of these concerns, take the people into confidence and guarantee the protection of their lives, property, lands and natural resources.

The speakers made clear that the Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party will continue its struggle for the protection of the national, political, economic and democratic rights of the Pashtun people. The party will continue to raise its voice on every democratic and political forum for the resolution of the problems facing the people, the establishment of law and order, the provision of employment, the provision of basic facilities like electricity, gas and water, and the right of local people over public resources.
